Registration Details

Kindergarten is an exciting and important first step on your student's educational journey. In PSD, you'll find students are supported in many ways with caring teachers and staff, positive school and classroom culture, as well as a collaborative, safe and welcoming learning environment.

Age Eligibility for Kindergarten Enrollment

Current 2024-25 school year: Children must be 5 years old before or on Oct. 1, 2024, to be enrolled in kindergarten this school year.

Upcoming 2025-26 school year: Children must be 5 years old before or on Oct. 1, 2025, to be registered for kindergarten in the 2024-25 school year. Please refer to Policy JEB for information about age requirements.

How to Find the Right School and Register

Determine your neighborhood school: Use the school locator to confirm your neighborhood school.

Look at your choices and visit schools: PSD has more than 30 elementary schools that offer many educational program options. Details on the variety of choices can be found in the Schools Directory or School Options and Choice web section.

Neighborhood schools and school choice
- Parents must register their new kindergartner at their neighborhood school, including those who submit school choice applications for kindergarten.
  - Registering at the neighborhood school does not impact a pending school choice application or potential seat offers from a choice school.
- Parents who want their child to attend a school outside their attendance/neighborhood school area must submit a School Choice application.

Register new kindergarten students online or in-person at schools.
- The online registration process for the 2025-26 school year will be available for parents/legal guardians beginning Monday, Nov. 4, to register incoming kindergartners.
- In-person registration is also available for families at neighborhood elementary schools on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Contact your student��s neighborhood school for school hours. You will need to bring this information to the school:
  - Verification of child��s birth date (birth certificate, passport, baptismal certificate, military ID, original or certified copies acceptable).
  - Proof of address (a copy of a lease agreement, mortgage statement, utility bill, etc., that shows that the parent/guardian lives at an address within school boundaries)
  - Immunization record or an
  - Custody documents (if applicable)
- Parents/legal guardians of incoming kindergartners are encouraged to complete online or in-person registration by Dec. 4, to allow schools to determine their classroom sizes, staffing needs and the number of school choice seats they can offer.
- Online registration and in-person registration at schools is available for families throughout the rest of the school year.

Kindergarten - a Foundation for Successful Learning

Kindergarten helps young children establish a love of learning, giving them a foundation to build on to become successful students and lifelong learners. Kindergartners benefit academically, emotionally and socially. They:
